Category: the Rant Board
Hi, didn't kno to put this in the rant board or cram sesion, so just move it if its in the wrong way.
Before i rant, i'd like to get something streight, that i hardly ever boast about something i'm good at at all, i dunno why, i'm just not like that, and i hardly ever admit i'm good at anything, but there you go lol.
Ok, so the other day i found out who would be in my computing a level group once i go into year 12.
Now, as much as i think its great that these people want to go furthur in computing, i surely have to ask my self, just like they should have to, is this the best subject for them?
In the uk, we have a ict gcse, which is basicily doing stuff in acsess and word, then in computing, you do stuff like vb (well are teacher is going to do it in c) and i think you do binary and stuff like that, but theres also lodes of other info that you just learn for the knolige, so its quite different from it, in as much as the amount of work that you would have to put in and the amount of background knolige you should have is bigger.
I'm not going to name names, but lets just say that these people got u's in there it mock.
Now, with out meaning to boast about it, even though i said a level was different from gcse, who would you put your money on doing better at a level on? 3 people that couldn't explain what a harddrive was in there exam or in class or someone that could?
I'd be fine if they were in another group, it would probly be me in 1 and the other 3 in another, with most of the new people we get in year 12 probly going into my group. But no. Just one group with one teacher.
With out beeing cocky, a level will really be the first time that i've learnt something in a i.t lesson at school, unless you include the lessons with are old it teacher that was into linux and stuff like that, so, understanderbly i think, i'd much rather not have to wait for the teacher to to explain stuff to 3 other people that really probly won't like or get it when i'll be learning stuff that i would actually use in a job that i'll do when i'm older? Fuck, i wouldn't even mind if it was nearer to 10 people that had small differences in skill, but really, 3 people all with u's, and the worst part is that the a level teacher reckamended that they took it!!
I'm not really sure what'll come of this, i mean i can't exactly walk up to them and say oh hay, your crap at computers, don't take a level coz it'll annoy me can i? and whats the betting that the school won't do anything about it lol.
I guess though, on the other hand, as i keep on saying, computing is different from i t, so they could be really good at it, but i dunno.
I wouldn't even mind taking time out of class to explain stuff to them, just so that we could get more covered in a lesson; there current teacher made me write up all there userguides for there databases for there gcse project anyway, so there'll be no change there.
Anyone else been in a situation like this or is it just me beeing selfish?
BEN.
one lesson i've learnt streight away is to proof read postings though, soz.
